ESF Bedford and Central Bedfordshire ‘Migrant Employment Support’ 2011-13
The ‘Bedford Transqual’ project provided support to 180 unemployed migrants (aged 19+) living in Bedford Borough and seeking to gain paid employment within the UK.
The project ran from January 2012 until December 2013 and offered three strands of support for participants:
- Pre-entry level English Language Training:
A 36 hour course designed to deliver English language training through ‘living and working in the UK’ topics. 80 participants benefited from this training. The course helped prepare migrants for work and provided the first step to accessing mainstream English language courses.
- Qualification conversion:
A chance for 150 participants to apply to have qualifications gained within their home nation converted into an UK ‘equivalent’, using the Government endorsed NARIC system to compare qualifications and participants will all receive help and advice pre and post conversion.
- Into employment support:
Tailored support to assist participants in their search for work. Support was based on the need of the individual and included CV writing, interview techniques, job search and the completion of application forms.
ESF is a partnership initiative with Central Bedfordshire Council and Bedford Borough Council as part of their on-going commitment to improve economic development and employment throughout Bedfordshire.
